Setup guide

Connect your Shopify store

This is the step everything else assumes. Connecting your store is what gives Mercopilot something to look at — your products, orders, and stock — and it happens entirely in your Shopify admin, with Shopify showing you exactly what it's granting.

  • About 2 minutes
  • Nothing to install locally
  • No theme or code changes

Before you start

  • A Shopify store you can install apps on — the store owner, or staff with the "Manage and install apps" permission.
  • Your store's .myshopify.com domain. Step 2 is finding it if you don't know it by heart.
  • About two minutes. There is nothing to download, and your theme is not touched.

The address you'll need

One thing gets typed in this whole setup: your store's permanent Shopify address. It always ends in .myshopify.com, and it is not the domain your customers see.

Store domain
your-store.myshopify.com

Find it in your Shopify admin under SettingsDomains, listed as the myshopify.com domain. It's also the address in your browser's bar while you're in the admin.

  1. Create your Mercopilot account

Head to Connect your store and sign up with a passkey or with Google. There's no password to pick and none to forget, and no card at this step.

Already have an account? Skip to step 3 — connecting a second store works exactly the same way.

  2. Copy your .myshopify.com domain

In a second tab, open your Shopify admin and go to SettingsDomains. Copy the one labelled myshopify.com domain — the permanent one Shopify gave you, which stays the same even after you point a custom domain at your store.

Custom domains like www.your-store.com won't work here. They belong to your storefront; the install talks to your admin.

  3. Paste it into your dashboard

Back on Mercopilot, open Stores in the dashboard sidebar. Paste the domain into Connect a store and click Connect.

The store name on its own is enough, too — your-store is completed to your-store.myshopify.com for you.

  4. Approve the permissions in Shopify

Shopify takes over from here and shows you its own install screen, listing what Mercopilot is asking for. You have to be signed in to that store's admin for the screen to appear.

    Products — read and write
To see titles, descriptions, and prices, and to apply the catalogue fixes you approve.
    Orders — read
To work out revenue, best sellers, and what has stopped moving. Read only.
    Inventory — read and write
To spot a best seller about to run out, and to set stock levels when you ask.
    Discounts — read and write
To see what is already running, and to create the discounts you approve.

Nothing on that list reaches your customers, your payouts, or your Shopify account settings. Click Install to approve.

Write access is what lets Mercopilot carry out a fix — a price, a title, a restock, a discount. It never uses it on its own: every change is proposed to you first, and only runs when you say yes. See the full loop

  5. Check it landed

Shopify sends you back to Mercopilot, which confirms Store connected. Your store now appears under Connected stores on the Stores page, with its name, its domain, and a green Connected tag.

If it isn't in that list, the connection didn't finish — see the notes below rather than installing again from Shopify.

That's the hard part done

Mercopilot can now see your store. What it can't do yet is talk to you — that happens through an AI client you already use, and takes another couple of minutes. The Claude and ChatGPT walkthroughs are at the foot of this page.

You can connect more than one store, and more than one AI client. Each store is approved separately, and each client asks which store it's allowed to work on when you authorize it.

If something goes wrong

It said "Couldn't connect that store"
That store is already connected to a different Mercopilot account. A store belongs to exactly one account, so the second attempt is refused rather than quietly moving it. If the other account is yours, sign in there; if it belonged to someone who has left, email us and we will move it across.
Shopify said the connection worked, but the store isn't in your list
The install ticket that ties the store to your account lasts ten minutes, and the approval took longer than that. Nothing is broken — go back to your dashboard and connect the same store again, which will attach it properly.
You got a page saying "Invalid state parameter"
Shopify's approval screen sat open for over an hour, so the signed request that took you there expired. Start again from the dashboard.
Shopify says you cannot install the app
Your staff account is missing the "Manage and install apps" permission. Ask the store owner to grant it, or to run these steps themselves — the connection belongs to the store, not to the person who set it up.
The field rejects your domain
It wants the .myshopify.com address, not your customer-facing one. Settings → Domains in your Shopify admin lists it under "myshopify.com domain".
You connected the wrong store
Connect the right one — the dashboard lists every connected store with its domain, so you can tell them apart, and an AI client asks which store to work on when you authorize it.

Stop asking “how many orders did I get?” Start asking what to fix first

Connect Shopify and see where the money is going — the best seller about to run out, the stock that has stopped moving, the listings costing you the sale. Every fix comes with what it's worth, and getting it done is one word away.

  • See the biggest wins first
  • Finds it, then fixes it for you
  • Catch lost sales before they happen
